The old unit has reached the end of its life

    The rail and motor are fixed to sound framing with appropriate hardware, not to drywall or a single furring strip, and the header bracket goes into real structure. The unit is wired to a suitable supply, and sensor and control wiring is run and secured where it will not be damaged.

  4. Set up, test and hand over

Belt drive or chain drive?
Belt, in almost every case where the garage is attached to the house or has rooms above it. A reinforced belt drive is significantly quieter and transmits less vibration into the structure, which is the difference between an opener you ignore and one that wakes someone at 6 a.m. Chain drives remain a sound, economical choice for a detached garage where noise carries to nobody, and they are robust on wide, heavy doors.
My detached garage has very low headroom. Is an opener even possible?
Usually, but not with a standard ceiling-mounted rail. Wall-mount jackshaft operators drive the torsion shaft from the side and need no overhead rail at all, which makes them the standard answer in shallow, low-headroom garages of the kind common in Oshawa's older south and central streets. Low-headroom rail kits are another route. The measurements taken during the assessment decide which is workable rather than a guess from the driveway.
Is battery backup worth having?
If the garage is how your household actually enters and leaves the house, yes.
